In August of 2008 Akadema did what few American companies have done in recent years. They brought manufacturing home by creating the Patriot glove series, a line of baseball gloves assembled in the United States. Since the 1950’s the American baseball glove manufacturing industry has shrunk from an estimated five thousand jobs to less than fifty jobs in 2007.
The reasons are all to familiar: the cost of wages, insurance, benefits, taxes and regulations. These obstacles increase the cost of production by three times and make it nearly impossible for domestic manufacturing to compete against foreign imports.
With all these cost factors making domestic manufacturing so difficult and costly, then why would Akadema decide to manufacture in the United States? The answer to that question is the company ownership’s love of the United States and the game of baseball. Akadema wants to bring back the pride that comes with making a quality product right here in the United States.
We hope that you will support Akadema and its American initiative. All products built here or abroad will help Akadema create more American jobs.
