BFG is offering a Value Added Lace Skiving Service. It is also known as lace Splitting or thinning.

  • We will split up to 10 pieces for $5.00. Please add an extra day to your shipping time. If you have 11-20 pieces it will be $10.00, and so on.
  • Please tell us how many to split, and how many of each color that you need split.

Step 1.  Add to your cart the quantity of laces you will need (from the Lace page) to complete your relace job.

Step 2.  Then (on this page) select Qty to Skive from the qty you ordered. ( up to 10, 11-20, 21-30) from drop down menu.

(ex. If you need 5 pieces to do the relace, and you want 2 pieces skived; Order 5 pieces of lace and note that you want 2 pieces skived - tell us which color and size.)

We will offer to thin the lace that you purchase so that it better fits in the palm and heel areas of your glove. Many glove manufacturers do this step to add a more comfortable feel to your hand inside the glove.

Many of the top Baseball Glove Repair Experts provide this extra step. This does take a little extra time and effort, but it provides a top quality glove relace service.

We normally will split the lace to approximately 4 1/2 ounce leather, or about 2 mm in thickness. Most of our standard lace is cut from 6-7 ounce leather which is just under 1/8" thick. So that small difference - or splitting - makes a big difference in how the lacing feels on your hand inside the glove.

Most gloves only use this thinner lace in the Palm and Heel areas. Those areas don't receive as much stress from catching the ball. The top areas such as the Web or Pocket and across the Finger Tops should use the standard, heavier -or thicker- lace since there is a lot of stress put on those areas during normal play.

Also, this Split lace can be used in the thumb and pinky since those don't receive much stress either.

So, most gloves will use 2 pieces of our lace in those lower areas. If you have an odd lacing pattern, you might add an extra piece just to be sure.
